Results of the public opinion poll conducted by the Razumkov Centre Sociological Service on December 21, 2022 – January 3, 2023.
Face-to-face interviews were held in Vinnytsia, Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr, Transcarpathian, Zaporizhia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Kirovohrad, Lviv, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Poltava, Rivne, Sumy, Ternopil, Kharkiv, Khmelnytskyi, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Chernivtsi regions and Kyiv city (in Zaporizhia, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv regions — only in the territories controlled by the Ukrainian government and free of hostilities).
The survey was conducted using stratified multistage sampling with random selection at the first stages of sampling and quotas at the final stage (respondents were selected by gender and age quotas). The sample population structure reproduced the demographic structure of the adult population of the territories where the poll was conducted as of the beginning of 2022 (by age, sex, settlement type).
2017 respondents in the age of 18 and more were polled. The theoretical sampling error does not exceed 2.3%. Meanwhile, additional systemic deviations of the sample may be caused by the effects of the Russian aggression, in particular, displacement of millions of citizens.
Answering the question "Which Ukrainian political figure would you call Politician of the year 2022?", 59% of respondents named Volodymyr Zelenskyy. After being elected President in 2019, Volodymyr Zelenskyy led the ratings in the "Politician of the Year" nomination every year: in 2019, 46% of the polled citizens of Ukraine named him, in 2020 — 15%, in 2021 — 17 %.
Valeriy Zaluzhnyi (10%) took the second place in terms of frequency of mention. Oleksiy Arestovych, Petro Poroshenko and Dmytro Kuleba collected 2% each, Mykhailo Podoliak and Serhiy Prytula — 1%.
Zelenskyy was named Politician of the Year 2022 by the majority of respondents in all regions: 66.5% in the country’s South, 61% in the Centre, 57% in the West and 55% in the East. He was mentioned more often by women (62%) than by men (55%). Younger age groups like him more than middle-aged and older people: 68% of those under 30, 63% between 30 and 39, and 54% to 56% in the middle and older age groups.
Among those who mainly speak Ukrainian at home, Volodymyr Zelenskyy was named politician of the year by 60%, among Russian-speakers — by 55%. The higher the level of well-being of the respondents is, the more often they mention V. Zelenskyy: from 54% of those who said that their family "hardly makes ends meet" to 63% among those who reportedly "do well."
