On February 21, 2023, the director of energy and infrastructure programmes of Razumkov Centre took part in the Energy Club expert discussion "Monopolization of energy markets. Will rapid growth of the role and importance of the state in the energy sector become an obstacle to joining the EU?"
In his report, V. Omelchenko focused on the problem of functioning of the current model of the electricity market in Ukraine. Its flaws, which are primarily related with strict state regulation of prices and an imperfect system of suppliers with public service obligations (PSO), have led to great losses for the key energy companies and created significant obstacles for the RES development.
Therefore, if this market model is not adapted to the EU rules, it will create significant obstacles for the recovery of the Ukrainian energy industry, as investors are not interested in investing in the energy infrastructure of a sector with strong state interference in market mechanisms.
Leading Ukrainian experts, people's deputies and business representatives took part in the expert discussion.
Presenters:
Oleksiy Kucherenko, People's Deputy of Ukraine, First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on Energy, Housing and Utilities
