Participation in the 18th Kyiv Security Forum: Presentation of the sociological survey "On War and Peace"

April 28, 2026

Ukrainians, like last year, most of all trust their defenders – the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other parts of the Defence Forces, and believe in victory and in Ukraine's ability to help NATO in the event of a Russian attack.

Such are the results of a public opinion poll "On War and Peace", which was conducted by Razumkov Centre on a request of the Kyiv Security Forum and presented by the Razumkov Centre President Yuriy Yakymenko at the 18th annual KSF "Darkness or Dawn: Is There Light Ahead?"

"The majority of Ukrainians are critical of the direction of Ukraine's movement. But the same situation was observed a year ago, reflecting pre-war public sentiments," Yakymenko noted.

Speaking about whom Ukrainians trust, Yakymenko emphasized: "First of all, their defenders – the Armed Forces of Ukraine (53.3% fully trust them), other forces of the security sector, as well as the President of Ukraine as the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine." According to him, volunteers and public organizations are also trusted.

Mr. Yakymenko noted: almost half of Ukrainians believe that during the war elections are not needed (45.6% is against it). However, compared to last year, the share of Ukrainians who want elections to be held has increased (40.8%).

Commenting on the Ukrainians' views of the prospects in this war, he said: "The belief of Ukrainians in victory, despite everything, is strong. In the fifth year of the war, two-thirds of Ukrainians (66.3%) continue to believe in the victory of our state over the Russian aggressor."

As Mr. Yakymenko elaborated, citizens see victory as the return of occupied territories and defeat of the aggressor's army.

The public opinion poll was conducted by Razumkov Centre on a request of the Kyiv Security Forum on April 2-8, 2026, by the method of face-to-face interview. 1,200 respondents aged above 18 were polled (only in the territories controlled by the government of Ukraine and free of hostilities). The sample theoretical error does not exceed 2.9%.
