On January 13, 2023, Razumkov Centre’s Energy and Infrastructure Programmes Director V. Omelchenko took part in the Energy Club Expert Discussion "Post-War Energy Sector in Ukraine: Reparations and First Priorities of Recovery".
Representatives of the government, state companies, specialised associations, scholars and experts also took part in the discussion.
During the event, the following topics were discussed:
- What reparations are expected?
- Recovery priorities: housing stock, industry and energy sector.
- Sufficiency of primary energy carriers
- Distributed generation
- Infrastructure redesign
- Energy efficiency
- Digitalization
- Energy market model
- Staffing of the branch.
In his report, V. Omelchenko, in particular, noted the importance of attracting investments in the renewable energy sector by improving the electricity market model in accordance with Ukraine's obligations under the Association Agreement between the EU and Ukraine and the Treaty Establishing the Energy Community. He also emphasized that the creation of a new energy profile based on RES, as well as due regard to decentralisation and demonopolisation, are critically important for the innovative development of the country.
Based on the results of the expert discussion, it is planned to work out general recommendations and submit them to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine for processing.
