On November 16, 2023, the Director of Energy and Infrastructure Programmes of Razumkov Centre V. Omelchenko delivered a presentation at the seminar, titled "Problems and prospects of hydrogen energy development in Ukraine".
In his presentation he, in particular, outlined the risks of transporting large volumes of hydrogen by pipelines and emphasized the importance of gradual creation of a domestic market for green hydrogen in order to achieve the climate goals assumed by Ukraine as part of the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement.
Omelchenko also noted the challenge faced by the leading exporters of industrial products in connection with implementation of one of the most potent EU tools for reducing greenhouse gas emissions — CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism). One efficient response to this challenge presumes the development of the "green" hydrogen sector in Ukraine, in close cooperation with European partners.
The international seminar was attended by leading European experts in hydrogen energy and representatives of the Ministry of Economy of the Federal Republic of Germany.
The event was organized by the Hydrogen Diplomacy Office of the Ministry of Economy of the Federal Republic of Germany together with Dena and Giz. Up to 20 persons took part in it.
