On December 20, 2023 Razumkov Centre, together with Konrad Adenauer Foundation Ukraine held an expert discussion (online) "Ukrainian society, the state and the church in wartime. Situation with the church and religion in Ukraine in 2023".
The expert discussion involved presentation of Razumkov Centre’ informational materials "Religion and the Church in Ukrainian Society: 2000–2023" with the results of sociological monitoring of the church and religious situation in Ukraine (2000–2023), including the latest nationwide poll, held in November 2023.
Representatives of the authorities, politicians, scholars and experts in the field of religious studies were invited to participate in the discussion.
The following issues were expected:
- Impact of the large-scale Russian aggression on the state and nature of religiosity in Ukrainian society, the role and place of religion meeting the spiritual needs of citizens. Trends in the confessional and church self-identification of citizens;
- Perception of the Church in society, vision of its goals and tasks in wartime. Role and place of social service of the Church, assessment of its fulfilment in present-day conditions by various churches and religious organizations;
- The state of inter-confessional, inter-church and state-church relations, society's attitude to separate decisions and initiatives of the state in the sphere of state-church relations, decisions of individual churches important for society.
