On 30 October, 2019 Rome hosted a major international seminar on the Russian aggression in Donbas and its consequences for the future of Europe.
Informative and comprehensive were the reports of Sen. Roberto Rampi, Member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Hon. Mauro Del Barba, Member of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Hon. Lia Quartapelle, Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Italian Chamber of Deputies and Benedetto Della Vedova,
Secretary of +Europa party. They supported the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine and the ongoing process of peaceful settlement of the conflict in Donbas.
Expert judgement of the events in the east of Ukraine was provided by Oleksiy Melnyk and Leonid Polyakov from the Razumkov Centre on the basis of comprehensive analytical research "Donbas Conflict Resolution: Progress Report and a Way Forward".
The Italian audience responded heartily to the personal story of a volunteer and activist from Donetsk Iryna Dovhan about the shocking episodes of human rights violations, persecution and tortures on the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and genuinely reacted to the address of human rights activist Maria Tomak.
Hon. Lia Quartapelle statement on the start of the parliamentary debate on imposing personal sanctions on foreign citizens due to violation of human rights was a significant outcome of the seminar.
