On April 20, 2023, the Director of Energy and Infrastructure Programmes of Razumkov Centre V. Omelchenko took part in the expert discussion "Potential of decentralization of electricity and heat generation in Ukraine after the beginning of full-scale Russian invasion", which was organized by the Laboratory of Critical Urbanism (European Humanities University, Vilnius).
During the expert discussion, V. Omelchenko looked into the following topical issues of the Ukrainian energy industry development:
- reorientation to local production of electricity in Ukraine, with a decrease in dependence on long-distance electricity transmission;
- the role of small gas power plants in the process of decentralization of the Ukrainian energy industry;
- the importance of regional policy in the energy transformations in Ukraine;
- the potential of power generation by local communities/cooperatives (primarily from renewable sources);
- prospects of spatial planning and construction with a focus on self-sufficiency of separate buildings, including do the an increase in their energy efficiency.
