At the invitation of the international NGO Democracy Reporting International (DRI), Razumkov Centre’s research fellow on legal issues, retired judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Petro Stetsiuk took part in the expert discussion of the "Elections" section of the 2024 Annual Report "Overview of Ukrainian democratic institutions during the wartime" on March 20, 2025.
The discussion focused on Ukraine’s "readiness" to organize and hold the first post-war elections, the main threats and challenges in this endeavour, and the practical ways to improve the national election legislation.
Taking part in the expert discussion, P. Stetsiuk, in particular, emphasized the need to clearly distinguish between "constitutional" and "legislative" restrictions in the legal regimentation of the organization and conduct of elections during and after martial law, and the imperative to strengthen the role of the parliamentary opposition in the national democratic processes.
Representatives of a number of prominent national and international public organizations active in the field of democracy building and human rights took part in the discussion.
