On May 4, 2023, the expert discussion “Domestic gas procurement by Naftogaz. Is there a chance for the return of a competitive market?” took place. The event was held as part of the Energy Freedom by Energy Club project - a forum of energy experts representing government structures, central authorities, national deputies, representatives of Energy Club member companies and leading industry experts.
Issues for discussion:
Balance of supply and demand – how to conciliate the interests of the parties
- Will Naftogaz auctions become a unifying factor for the return of the organized market?
- What are the future scenarios and prospects of the gas market in Ukraine?
About 15 participants took part in the discussion, including the director of energy and infrastructure programmes of the Razumkov Center V. Omelchenko. In his presentation, he noted the need to create a Ukrainian stock exchange indicator for natural gas trade, an to focus on incentives for domestic gas production, when improving the market model. In addition, V. Omelchenko emphasized the critical importance of the market de-monopolization by reforming Naftogaz of Ukraine.
