At the Razumkov Centre’s initiative, the Public Council at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs adopted a statement in support of granting Ukraine the candidate status for EU accession

June 07, 2022

A consideration of granting Ukraine the candidate status is planned at the regular meeting of the European Council on 23-24 June.

To this end, on 7 June the members of the Public Council at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine approved the Statement initiated by the Razumkov Centre in support of this candidate status.

The document, in particular, emphasises that such a decision will be a sign of support and solidarity of the European Union with Ukraine during the difficult period of Russian aggression. At the same time, obtaining candidate status is an additional impetus for internal transformations and a powerful moral incentive for Ukrainians. The statement also emphasises that failure to address (postpone) this issue will be a critical mistake of the EU leading to negative consequences.
