On 18 March 2026, the Razumkov Centre will host the expert discussion entitled “Ukraine in Transition: War-Driven Changes, Societal Expectations, and the Role of Veterans in Politics and Post-War Governance”.
The event will take place at the Ukrinform National News Agency of Ukraine (8/16 Bohdana Khmelnytskoho St., 2nd floor, Kyiv) and will be held in a hybrid format (online and in person) from 11:00 to 13:30.
During the discussion, the special issue of the journal “National Security and Defence” will be presented. The publication contains materials produced within the framework of the project “Ukraine: Socio-Political Challenges of the Transition from War to Peace and Post-War Recovery. The Role of Veterans,” implemented by the Razumkov Centre with the support of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation Office in Ukraine.
The publication includes the results of nationwide sociological and expert surveys conducted in November 2025, materials from a Razumkov Centre expert roundtable, and articles by leading Ukrainian scholars and experts in the fields of economics, political science, law, psychology, and sociology.
Participants in the discussion will include representatives of public authorities, politicians, Ukrainian and international scholars and experts, members of the veterans’ community and civil society organisations, as well as representatives of international organisations, projects, and the diplomatic corps.
Key issues proposed for discussion:
- What are the key socio-political challenges for Ukraine in transitioning from the legal regime of martial law to the full functioning of democratic institutions, the restoration of a competitive political process, and the renewal of political leadership through future elections?
- How is the traditional landscape of socio-political relations changing in light of the growing role of the military and veterans? What are the public expectations, opportunities, and potential risks? What role can veterans of the Russian-Ukrainian war play during the transition to the restoration of peaceful life and the further development of democratic processes?
- What policy decisions and institutional responses are needed to prevent the potential emergence or consolidation of negative trends that have developed during the period of Russia’s full-scale aggression?
The event will be live-streamed on the YouTube channel of Ukrinform and on the website of the Razumkov Centre.
Project materials (in Ukrainian and English) will be available online on the website of the Razumkov Centre, starting 11:00 on 18 March 2026.
