On December 20, 2023, at 11.00 a.m., Razumkov Centre will hold an expert discussion “Ukrainian Society, State and Church in Time of War. Church and Religious Situation in Ukraine in 2023”.
During the discussion, the Razumkov Centre will present the information materials “Religion and Church in Ukrainian Society: 2000–2023”, prepared within the framework of a project supported by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation Office in Ukraine. The materials contain the results of sociological monitoring of the church and religious situation in Ukraine (2000–2023), including the latest national survey conducted in November 2023.
Representatives of government, politicians, scholars, and experts in the field of religious studies are invited to participate in the discussion.
The following issues are expected to be discussed:
- The impact of large-scale Russian aggression on the state and nature of religiosity in Ukrainian society, on the role and place of religion in meeting the spiritual needs of citizens. Trends in confessional and church self-determination of citizens.
- The attitude of society to the Church, the vision of its goals and objectives in the context of war. The role and place of the Church’s social ministry, assessment of its implementation in modern conditions by various churches and religious organizations.
- The state of interdenominational, interchurch and church-state relations, the attitude of society to certain decisions and initiatives of the state in the field of church-state relations, to socially resonant decisions of separate churches.
The working language of the event is Ukrainian. Simultaneous translation into English will be provided.
