Regarding Global Threats in the Event of Russia’s Full-Scale Aggression Against Ukraine

November 20, 2018

If we discuss the threats that Russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine may pose to the EU, then it is necessary to focus on the energy facilities — primarily NPPs — rather than the gas transportation system. This is something that can endanger the entire world. In case of combat operations in Ukraine in the vicinity of nuclear reactors, this can lead to truly catastrophic consequences, not just the lack of heating in European homes.

However, the Kremlin is not interested in a full-scale military aggression against Ukraine. Instead, Russia would rather fuel this conflict not recognising its involvement as long as possible, so it is not translated into real war between states. It depletes the Ukrainian economy and undermines the prospects for development. It is also a powerful tool for influencing public opinion in Ukraine.
