Due to the current situation in the gas market, new investors will not invest in gas production in Ukraine, says Razumkov Centre energy programmes director Volodymyr Omelchenko.
According to him, the gas market is in a difficult financial situation. This problem arose because private gas producers cannot export and sell their resource.
"As a result, one and a half billion cubic meters are currently kept in underground storage facilities of private companies," Omelchenko emphasized.
He added that under such conditions, new investors will not invest in Ukrainian gas production, because there are no incentives for growth.
"Therefore, the situation here needs to be changed in such a way that any producer of natural gas can sell it on the domestic market at market prices or export it without restrictions. Otherwise, there will be no investments and no growth in gas production," Omelchenko summed up.
Noteworthy, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy and Utilities Andriy Herus proposed resuming exports of gas and coal. In his opinion, thanks to the limited export of coal and gas, Ukraine will be able to raise additional funds to restore the energy system after massive attacks.
