ANNOUNCEMENT. Expert Discussion "Ukrainian Society, State and Church in Wartime. Church and Religion in Ukraine-2024"

On January 28, 2025, at 11:00 Razumkov Centre will hold at the Ukrinform news agency an Expert Discussion "Ukrainian Society, State and Church in Wartime. Church and Religion in Ukraine-2024".

The Expert Discussion will see a presentation of Razumkov Centre's information materials "Religion and Church in Ukrainian Society: 2000–2024", prepared as part of a project supported by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation Office Ukraine. The materials contain the results of sociological monitoring of the church and religious situation in Ukraine in 2000–2024, including the latest nationwide poll conducted in October 2024.

Representatives of the authorities, diplomats, politicians, Ukrainian and international scholars and experts are invited to take part.

During the discussion, the following issues are to be discussed:

  • The impact of large-scale Russian aggression on the state and nature of religiosity in Ukrainian society, the role and place of religion in satisfaction of the spiritual needs of citizens. Trends in the confessional and church self-determination of citizens,
  • Society's attitude towards the Church, vision of its goals and objectives in wartime. The Church's social mission, assessment of its implementation by various churches and religious organizations after the beginning of Russia's all-out war against Ukraine.
  • The state of inter-confessional, inter-church and state-church relations, society's attitude to the changes introduced in 2024 to the legislation regulating the activities of religious organizations in Ukraine.


The working language of the event is Ukrainian. Simultaneous translation into English will be provided

The information materials will be available for review on the Centre's website from 15:00 on January 27, 2025.
