Expert predicts petrol deficit in Ukraine: limitations may be re-introduced at fuel stations

Expert Maksym Bielawski predicts that restrictions on sale of gasoline may be introduced again in Ukraine in the fall.

Fuel shortages are not expected in Ukraine in the near future, but restrictions on the sale of gasoline may be introduced again in the fall. Maksym Bielawski, Razumkov Center’s leading expert on energy programs, expressed this opinion in a comment for RBC Ukraine.

He says that the state proactively monitors the market of petroleum products and takes the decisions necessary to balance supply and demand, including the use of rail transport.

"According to my observations, the state will also supply additional batches so that there is no shortage of fuel in the first autumn months. Therefore, we should not expect any acute shortage," the expert added.

However, according to his forecasts, restrictions on gasoline sale are not ruled out in the fall, "but they will not be stricter than 20 litres per car."

In the expert’s opinion, most likely, there will be no shortage of diesel fuel, despite the farmers’ demand in autumn. "Nevertheless, these wholesale batches will have a minor impact on the retail segment," he added.

"As for gas, most likely, its prices will further decrease," he said, attributing this to oversupply on the market.
