Diversification of nuclear fuel supplies is needed for Ukrainian nuclear power industry

November 06, 2017

Ukraine continues to diversify the sources of nuclear fuel supply. During the last international energy forum “Open Energy Week 2017” First Vice-President of the state-run enterprise “Energoatom” Oleksandr Shavlakov announced the latest data on public procurement. This year the company intends to purchase 17 batches of fresh nuclear fuel, including 11 batches of the fuel “TVEL” and 6 batches of “Westinghouse” production. “The situation with the supply of fresh nuclear fuel to Ukraine is quite predictable and optimistic” — O. Shavlakov said.

Ukraine’s strategic course on diversification of nuclear fuel supplies is fully justified. Cooperation with “Westinghouse” in this area will only deepen. Ukrainian politicians and experts note that diversification of nuclear fuel supplies to the nuclear power plants contributes to the achievement of energy security and independence of the country.

“Every year “Westinghouse” increases its share in the Ukrainian market” — said Director of Energy programmes Volodymyr Omelchenko. Ukraine is not the only country that diversifies the supply of nuclear fuel. “Westinghouse” increases its share in the Ukrainian market every year. I don’t see any technological problems in this field — concluded Volodymyr Omelchenko.
